Feeling like the new kid at school? Are you going to make any friends? Will you have anyone to sit with at lunch? First days at work can bring on the same worries, and lunch can be tricky when you don’t know what to expect, so it’s best to be prepared for any situation.
Some teams go out to lunch to welcome new employees. It’s important to get to know your coworkers and let them get to know you so definitely say yes. Have your wallet ready!
But, some teams don’t make a big deal out of first days, so you should also pack a simple lunch. Peanut butter and jelly, an apple, and some pretzels are a safe choice. Try to make it something that doesn’t need to be refrigerated so you’re not searching for the break room when you walk into the office for the first time.
If there are no signs of an organized lunch, ask the person training you what people do for lunch. Avoid sitting at your desk if you can, but having a quick lunch by yourself if no one else is eating together is better than not eating at all.
Oh and keep a few snacks handy so you have something you can quickly munch on between training sessions; you don’t want to be known as the hangry person.
