Have you earned your spot at the bar for work happy hour when you've earned your own cubicle? Tough question considering you're excepted to work and act like your older counterparts and don't want to come off as the team yougin'. Queue "when I was your age" jokes.
Bottom line is that it's not worth it to drink underage at a work happy hour. Order a sparkling water with lemon and enjoy socializing without a buzz, no need to call attention to yourself. If anyone asks why you’re not drinking and you don't want any ageism in the office, you can use the age excuse or explain that you need to drive home or have plans after work. No one is going to care.
Remember that drinking underage is illegal (you must be 21 in the US), so you’d much rather be the odd one out from not drinking rather than the one standing out because a bartender cards you and confiscates your fake. Now that’d be a water-cooler-worthy story.
