Take a peek inside a copywriter's closet and see what she wears to work in a typical week. This isn't Pinterest (except when it's on Pinterest); it's real life.

A Copywriter's Closet

Name: Jackie Vermeulen

Title: Copywriter

Department: Content Development (creative)

Business Type: Corporate

Dress Code: Smart Casual

What do you think about when you get dressed for work? I imagine that I am taking a trip to Target and I'm going to run into someone I went to high school with. I want to look pulled together and fashionable but not like I'm trading on the stock market, just getting done with yoga class, or trying to be ironic with a graphic tee.

MONDAY: Starting the week out right

Why did you choose this outfit? I try to dress *especially* nice on Mondays to get a confident start to the week.

What are you wearing?

Dress: This dress is from Ann Taylor Loft. I love it because it's feminine and fun and acceptable for work and play. Just watch out for coffee...

Shoes: These strappy sandals call for a pedicure; that's for sure.

Accessories: The necklace I'm wearing is an initial necklace from Benari Jewelers. You'll see it a couple times throughout my week; it's easy-to-pair, easy-to-wear. I also added (what I consider) statement earrings to complete the look.

TUESDAY: Color, comfort, and a little bit of country

Why did you choose this outfit? This flowy top is easy, comfortable, and adds some personality to my wardrobe.

What are you wearing?

Top: This is a Lucky Brand top. You can find a similar one here.

Pants: My favorite Lucky Brand jeans!

Boots: Brown cowgirl boots

Accessories: I wear the same necklace from Monday and a pair of fun earrings from QVC that is similar to this pair.

WEDNESDAY: Meetings galore

Why did you choose this outfit? All of my meetings seem to fall on a Wednesday, so I like to dress in something professional and comfortable.

What are you wearing?

Dress: This dress is from Anthropology. It's comfortable, effortless, and bonus: it has pockets! I got it from Anthropology a few years back. I even have a colorful one in the same style that I wore to an interview for my current corporate position--it's that great.

Shoes: Busy days require easy shoes and these Clarks ballet flats are my favorite. Comfy and cute. Win-win.

Accessories: My go-to monogram necklace and earrings similar to this pair from Anthropology

THURSDAY: A professional pop of color

Why did you choose this outfit? The top combo says business and the jeans say casual, but this is one mullet that works. Some days it's chilly in the office, and some days it feels like I might break a sweat, so I like to have a sweater with me when I wear a sleeveless top, and this yellow one provides just the right pop of color.

What are you wearing?

Top: This sleeveless top is from Anne Taylor Loft and I wear it with a sweater, like this yellow one that's also from Anne Taylor Loft.

Pants: My Lucky Brand jeans

Shoes: These Sperry Valencia espadrilles are a staple in my warmer-weather wardrobe. Sometimes I wonder if I actually wear them too much. But then I remember that I can't remember what my coworker wore yesterday, so she probably won't remember that I wore these shoes for the past three days; that's right...I rotate these wedges with all of the outfits you see above. Hey, when they work, they work.

Accessories: The famous monogram necklace and the same earrings from Wednesday

FRIDAY: The temperature drops

Why did you choose this outfit? This is my go-to welcome-to-fall outfit and the one I pull out when it's supposed to be spring but the weather says "jk not yet."

What are you wearing?

Sweater: This semi-fitted sweater is from Lucky Brand. I couldn't find this exact one, but you can find a comparable sweater here.

Pants: You guessed it! My Lucky Brand jeans...again

Shoes: Lucky Brand ankle boots with wrap-around buckle straps that I tuck my jeans into

Accessories: A statement necklace from Francesca's boutique

The Extras

Is there anything not shown? Jewelry is my way of saying I tried to make myself look nice, which is why you saw pieces used multiple times. I always wore a watch before I got my Garmin Vivofit to encourage me to get my bum moving throughout the day.

I also lug my laptop back and forth in this C. Wonder bag.

What do you do with your hair? I wear it wavy (so I don't have to worry about blowdrying), blow dry it straight, or curl it for extra-special days. Nothing groundbreaking.

What else do you see in the office? So many different styles! It's really a personal preference in a creative environment. I've seen a dress inspired by a Star Wars character, plenty of maxi dresses, and even (nice) flip-flops.

Some no-go's: anything with rips, grunge, strappy tank-tops, or leggings (with short shirts).

Final thoughts: When I find a style I like, I buy other colors so I have one less thing I have to think about because getting dressed for work shouldn't be hard.

Thanks for stopping by my closet!
