Do I have to work from my desk all day?

The only way you’ll know if you can sit somewhere else in the building is if you ask your manager. Before you ask, get the facts straight:

1. Do you need internet connection to do your job? If so, does your office have wifi?

2. Are there any free spaces in the office you can use? Could you be equally—if not more—productive there?

3. Do you work with confidential information? Is there a way to protect it while working away from your desk?

4. What do other people on your team do?

Now you’re prepared to address their possible concerns and all you have to do is ask. And if they say no, invest in a nice picture of the beach to keep next to your computer.
