Take a peek inside a Finance Intern's closet and see what she wears to work in a typical week. This isn't Pinterest (except when it's on Pinterest); it's real life.

Name: Julia

Title: Risk analyst intern

Department: Finance

Business Type: Corporate

Dress Code: Mostly business casual but occasionally business formal or smart casual; it changes based on my day's schedule

What do you think about when you get dressed for work? I want to always look put together! Never let someone think you just rolled out of bed and came to work. First impressions are everything, and you never know who you will run into that day.

Another great tip: After getting dressed, try sitting down in your outfit. Make sure it is comfortable and looks good both sitting and standing.

MONDAY: Let's get down to business

Why did you choose this outfit? This business formal outfit is for a presentation to senior executives. This is an appropriate outfit for business formal and more of what you would see for investment banking jobs. Heels can dress anything up (just like when you go out on the weekend!).

What are you wearing? Skirt and suit jacket from Banana Republic, white top from J. Crew, and heels from Michael Kors

TUESDAY: Dressed to impress

Why did you choose this outfit? Today, I have an important meet and greet with a high level executive. I want to keep it simple and classy. I am wearing flats to tone down the outfit slightly as the campus I am working on is business casual.

What are you wearing? Skirt and suit jacket from Banana Republic, top from J. Crew (you can tell where I like to shop for business clothes), and the shoes are Cole Haan

WEDNESDAY: Color me professional

Why did you choose this outfit? After two days of business formal, I wanted like to dress it down a little with business casual. The skirt is fun and flowy and the sweater makes a bright first impression. A long necklace is good to change up the look of an outfit (especially when you wear the same staple clothes often).

What are you wearing? Skirt and sweater from J. Crew, heels from Michael Kors, and necklace from Free People

THURSDAY: Keeping it classic

Why did you choose this outfit? Thursday is always a little more casual, but not time for jeans yet. This dress is super comfortable and easy to dress up with any long, fun necklace. A sweater is a must in every office--it's hard to focus on work when you're cold all day.

FRIDAY: Fro-yo Friday

Why did you choose this outfit? Casual Friday: my favorite day of the week. Nice jeans and a cute, bright professional top are my smart casual go-to's. Make sure your jeans are the right balance between tight and loose--not too tight that you can barely breathe or sit and not too loose that they look like boyfriend jeans. I am wearing flats for my team's weekly Friday walks...to Fro-yo. The long necklace adds a little more to just a plain shirt.

The Extras

Is there anything not shown? A good bag is a must! Get a classic color like black or brown that will match anything. Make sure it has room for everything you may need--your laptop, notebook, snacks, water bottle, back-up makeup, and a pair of flats if you are wearing heels.

And a sweater...the office can be cold so always bring a sweater to work (that also matches your outfit).

What do you do with your hair? I blow dry my hair out every day. Like I said before, you never want to look like you just rolled out of bed. Take the time to make yourself look presentable every morning.

Some no-go's: Avoid anything that shows off the three B's: butt, boobs, and belly.

Final thoughts: Dress your style! It may be hard to find "your style" in business formal and casual, but it can be done. It may just be adding a cute necklace or fun flats, but find something you like and go with it. If you find a shirt you really like to wear, buy it in all 5 colors; it's worth it.

Thanks for stopping by my closet!
